Extra Curricular Activities
Your education doesn't stop within the classroom. At West Calder High School we believe that participation is key to success, and encourage all of our young people to enjoy the benefits of taking part in Extra-Curricular Activity.
Extra-Curricular clubs provide a wide range of benefits that support students' personal, academic, and emotional development.
They create opportunities for young people to explore interests in a relaxed and enjoyable setting, helping them discover new talents while building confidence and independence. Through collaboration on activities and projects, extra-curricular activities also develop important skills like teamwork, communication, leadership, and problem-solving.
At the same time, participation in extra-curricular activities can improve academic performance by encouraging better time management and organisational skills, as young people learn to balance their studies with extracurricular commitments. Being involved in extra-curricular activities often increases motivation and engagement in learning as well as helping strengthen critical thinking and subject knowledge.
extra-curricular activities have a positive impact on mental health by providing a sense of belonging, reducing stress, and offering a supportive environment where young people can form friendships and feel valued. Overall, by keeping young people active, connected, and motivated, extra-curricular activities contribute significantly to both academic success and overall well-being.
