Headteacher's Welcome

I am delighted to welcome you to the West Calder High School website.  As much as the website is useful for teachers, it's mostly about providing useful, meaningful information about the school and wider community for pupils and parents/carers, as well as showcasing the school to any online visitors.

At West Calder we work together to bring out the best in our pupils. This is a school where young people can learn and succeed, be ambitious and realise their full potential.  Every pupil coming through this school is encouraged to do their best, and as teachers our job is to make sure there is a supporting, nurturing, inclusive environment in which our young people feel valued and encouraged to achieve their best.

We're very lucky to have recently moved to a new £32m building. West Lothian Council's biggest ever single investment in education, the new state of the art building was delivered on time and on budget by our partners at Hub South East and Morrison Construction. The school was officially opened on Thursday 8 November by The Right Hon Gordon Brown, UN Special Envoy for Global Education, and is already transforming learning and teaching for West Calder pupils.

This website is designed to help parents/carers and we are really keen to hear from you on what you think of the information and resources available.  What do you like?  What do you not like?  What do you think could be improved, and how?  Please let us know in the feedback/comments section.

There will be lots of information about school events and activities, as well as anything that we think is newsworthy. We've got pupils to be proud of at West Calder High School, and we won't be ashamed to shout about it!  Nor should you - if there is anything on this site that you like, please do pass it on, sharing it on whichever platforms you use i.e. Facebook or Twitter.

Thanks for taking time to read this introduction and I hope you find our website useful.
