Transition Programme
Transition from primary to secondary school refers to the structured process that supports pupils moving from Primary 7 (P7) into Secondary 1 (S1). It is not just the physical move between schools—it is a planned, multi-stage process designed to help children adjust academically, socially, and emotionally.
At WCHS our transition programme ensures the continuity of learning and support as pupils progress, ensuring:
- Learning builds smoothly on prior knowledge
- Pupils feel safe, confident, and prepared
- Information about each child is shared effectively
We run various events through the year to support pupils in their journey from Primary to Secondary. Pupils are supported through activities such as school visits, meeting new teachers, and becoming familiar with the secondary environment, which helps reduce anxiety and build confidence. Additional support, including extended transition programmes and personalised planning, may be provided for pupils who need it, while parents and carers are involved through communication and information events. Overall, transition aims to ensure that pupils feel secure, prepared, and ready to succeed as they move into secondary education.
