Vision Schools Scotland Award

Level 1 Vision School Scotland

In 2022 West Calder was awarded the Level 1 vision school Scotland award. Holocaust education has always existed within our schools curriculum but as a school with the values of ambition, respect and equity we want to ensure that every pupil is given the opportunity to be active citizens in identifying and tackling discrimination within society. The Vision Schools Programme embeds the principles of Scotland's curriculum, whose priorities include responsible citizenship, in which Education for Citizenship is permeated across the curriculum, in its encouragement of effective and sustained school-based Holocaust education. West Calder is the first school in West Lothian to be awarded with the Level 1 qualification.  This award is given to schools who are identified to have an excellence in Holocaust education.  West Calder has an interdisciplinary approach towards the Holocaust education as pupils learn about the Holocaust, subsequent genocides and discrimination in today's society in subjects such as Social studies, English, RMPS, IDL and Modern Languages.
