BGE Courses
BGE Course Details
In S1 students will get the opportunity to experience all languages offered in the school, namely French, German and Spanish, with short inserts of Mandarin. This is all achieved through the CLIL approach, which is an integrated language learning style, in which students are immersed in a language at the same time as studying a relevant topic area. This includes topics such as Exploring South America, German film and football, and Myths and Legends. Students will cover all four of the main skills: Reading, Listening, Talking and Writing in most lessons and this will be done using a variety of activities and using digital technologies.
In S2 students will get the choice of which of the three main languages (French, German, Spanish) they wish to study in more depth in S2 and S3.
The main purpose in Modern Languages at WCHS is to
highlight the value of language skills in life and work.
help widen their knowledge of other cultures and traditions.
increase confidence and enjoyment in literacy and language learning skills.
In S3 students will continue with the language they have chosen in S2 as part of the Scottish government's National Language Policy. They will have the opportunity in S3 to work towards a National Award at Level 4 and 5 called Modern Languages for Life and Work.
